Under the control of the Pringles of Torwoodlee since 1489, this is a very attractive and relatively easily accessed stretch of the
river - it offers good Upper Tweed fishing at reasonable prices.
For further information on the Pringle family history, please go to www.torwoodlee.com.
The Nest catches almost all of its fish in October and November but sea trout are often to be seen here in July and salmon pass
through in small numbers throughout the season and certainly as early as September.
The beat consists of nearly two-and-a-half kilometres of the left bank with five named pools: Rampy, Boat Pool, House Pool,
Policeman and The Gullets. There is a newly extended hut and there are now four main access routes to the river which involve
parking on the main road and walking no more than 200 yards. It can fish five rods comfortably.
Otters and kingfishers can be seen amongst all the other wildlife to be expected in this wonderfully scenic part of the Scottish
Borders. Local accommodation can be found at all levels with Clovenfords Country Hotel being the most popular as it is only five
minutes drive from the beat.
The Estate can help to organise other activities to complement your visit – please call James Pringle on 01896 752153 to arrange
stalking and rough shooting. If conditions make the water unfishable, there is always Torwoodlee Golf Club which has a delightful 18
hole course alongside the Gala Water.
Please note that the Estate reserves the right to fish an occasional house rod but only when conditions are suitable.
