Ladykirk has achieved record catches in the past few years, upholding its reputation as a beat which excels in low water conditions,
at times when others may struggle. This is partly due to its position next to the tidal waters which can allow large quantities of
fish to accumulate while they are forced to wait for higher water. The 2005 season was no exception and resulted in some excellent
catches during the autumn period. And who could forget the truly remarkable catches of 2003? Although Ladykirk usually fishes best
from August through to October, it also offers reasonable sport in the spring and summer months too. Primarily a salmon beat, it
also has a steady run of sea trout.
The beat mostly lies within the policies of Ladykirk House with good access to the main pools through the beautiful parkland. The
three mile beat is all single bank, but throughout most of its length, this is the better bank. The former stone netting shiels have
been renovated to make excellent fishing huts with up to five boats available. The meeting room can be used to store clothing,
equipment and fish.
There will be six rods fishing the whole beat until 25th August with one gillie provided. Four of these rods are let on a
one-day-a-week syndicate basis - for details please contact the office.
After that, only the top two of the five beats are let with four rods fishing, each sharing one beat, a boat and a gillie with
another rod. Hence at any one time, one of the rods in each pair will be fishing from the bank and one from the boat with a gillie.
Each pair will move beats at the middle and end of each day.
Anybody giving reasonable notice will be able to book an extra gillie should he wish to do so. There is an additional charge for
this service which is payable on the day.
Please note that the catches shown below are for the whole beat, including the three bottom beats in the autumn that are not part
of the let at that time.
